Alison T. Schmiesing, age 88, of West Manchester Township, York, died at 11:48 AM Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Wellspan York Hospital.
Born May 5, 1937, in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Bracken and Dorothy (Poe) Tate. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education, and had worked as a school teacher in earlier years. Since moving to Normandie Ridge in 2008, she was active in the worship program, prayer, choir, and knitting groups. Alison enjoyed nature, walking, bird-watching, aquatics, knitting, writing letters to friends and family, orchestral music, and chocolate.
Mrs. Schmiesing is survived by a son, John M. Schmiesing, and his wife Angela, of York; two granddaughters, Julia and Hazel; a sister, Caroline Dibert, of New Zealand; and her former husband, Richard J. Schmiesing. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Timothy and Thomas Tate.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Friday, March 13, 2026, at Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc., 863 South George Street, York. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 PM. Burial will be private. Livestream of services will be available at http://www.facebook.com/KuhnerAssociates
A Celebration of Life gathering is scheduled for 6:30 PM Friday, March 13, 2026, in the Community Room at Normandie Ridge, 1700 Normandie Drive, York.
