Betty Leckrone Obituary

Betty Virginia Hoffman Leckrone, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on March 31, 2024, at the age of 97. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and cherished memories.

Born on February 1, 1927, in York, Pennsylvania, Betty was the daughter of Stuart Edward Hoffman and Sarah Jane (Olp) Hoffman.

On November 23, 1950, Betty exchanged vows with the love of her life, Dale Eugene Leckrone, on Thanksgiving Day at the Salem Lutheran Church in Dover, PA. Betty and Dale shared a bond that lasted for over 72 years until Dale's passing in May 2023.

Their union was blessed with four children: Connie Christine, who sadly passed away in 1961 at the age of 7,  Marsha Jane Briggs (married to Lowell Briggs), Joyce Elaine Gross (married to Thomas Gross), and Susan Ann Herman (married to Jeffrey Herman). Betty's life was enriched by her five grandchildren: Jenna Briggs, Amber Briggs, Erin Gross, Kyle Herman, and Leah Herman Shaffer (married to TJ Shaffer), along with her great-granddaughter, Cameron Christine Shaffer. Family was at the center of Betty's world, and she took great joy in spending time with her loved ones.

Betty is survived by one brother, Myron Hoffman. She lived next door to him and their families, including Myron's late wife Shirley Hoffman and their two daughters, Jane Hoffman Heidlebaugh and Michelle Hoffman Holdren, spent countless cherished moments together.

Betty graduated from William Penn High School in 1945 and embarked on various adventures alongside Dale, including his time in the army in San Antonio, Texas and accompanying him during his professional baseball career.  From 1945 to 1951, Betty worked at York Shipley, and later became a part owner of her family's business, Hoffman's Furniture Store, Inc. in York, PA.

She was a dedicated member of Hayshire United Church of Christ since 1960 and actively participated in various community organizations, including the North York Women's Club.  In her leisure time, Betty enjoyed playing bridge, swimming, knitting, taking pictures, and traveling. She was known for her generous spirit and knack for organizing reunions and picnics, creating cherished memories for family and friends. For 39 years, Betty planned annual beach trips to Delaware, a tradition that brought joy and laughter to her family.  Betty and Dale built their house in 1954 and she continued to live there until the last few months where she was well taken care of at The Residence at Fitz Farms.
