Carl R. Sallade, age 94, of York, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, November 17, 2023. He was the husband of Jane (Bowman) Sallade, the late Jacquelyn (May) Sallade, to whom he was married for 55 years, and the late Ruth Sallade.
Born February 1, 1929, in York, a son of the late Harry G. and Wilhelmina (Schaefer) Sallade, he graduated from William Penn Senior High School in 1946 and he served on the High School Reunion committee until they met for their 70th and last gathering. He was the retired President and co-owner of Chas. A. Schaefer Flower Shop, a family business which recently celebrated it’s 125 years in business. Carl served as President of Unit 3-C of Florists’ Transworld Delivery (FTD) from 1954-1965. He was also President of Pennsylvania Retail Florists from 1963-1965. He was a lifelong member of Trinity United Church of Christ, where he was a longtime member of the Consistory. He was also a longtime member of the Rotary Club of York, as well as a member of Elks-York Lodge #213 and the Viking Athletic Association.
In addition to his wife Jane, he is survived by two sons, Kenneth Sallade, and his wife Jaclyn, and Christopher Sallade, and his wife Deb; a daughter-in-law, Karon Sallade; two granddaughters, Megan Bortner, and her husband Jason, and Amanda Thomas, and her husband Steve; two grandsons, Brian Sallade and his wife Meagan, and Benjamin Sallade; three great grandchildren, Lydia Thomas, Carter Thomas, and Emma Sallade. He will also be deeply missed by the large stepfamily he leaves behind. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Carl Sallade II and infant Jack Alan Sallade; and two brothers, Harry Sallade, and Robert Sallade.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc., 863 South George Street, York with his Pastor, The Rev. Dr. Larry D. Covin, officiating. Viewing will be from 1:00-2:00 PM. Private burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery.
