Carol Heilman Figdore, age 84, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. Carol was born on November 27, 1939, to Jacob and Annabel Heilman of York, PA.

Carol grew up on the family farm and graduated from Central York High School. She earned a scholarship to Elizabethtown College and graduated magna cum laude, first in her class. She taught elementary school in Central School District for 41 years, becoming a favorite of parents and students alike and winning several awards along the way. Carol also earned a Master of Arts in education from the University of Rochester in New York.

Carol married her sweetheart, George Figdore, on August 22, 1964. They were heavily involved in the local Conewago Canoe Club and paddled rivers all over North America. Her adventures with the club included racing, hiking, backpacking, camping, weight training, whitewater rafting, and photography. After her retirement in 2002, Carol and George began to travel the world and enjoyed many adventures together as well as trips to Alaska to visit her nieces and eventually grandniece and nephews.

Carol was an engaging, vivacious, and curious woman. She was fearless in trying new things, and her humor and love of life were contagious. Her family will always be inspired by the way she embraced life.

Carol is preceded in death by her husband, George Figdore, and survived by her sister, Doris Heilman, her nieces and nephew, and grandniece and grand nephews. A memorial service will be held at Quickel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 60 Canal Road Ext, York, PA 17406, on Friday, July 19, at 11:00 AM.
