Clark Eugene Wise, age 96, of Spring Garden Township, York, died at 11:10 PM Friday, March 14, 2025, at his residence. He was the husband of Yvonne D. (Wentz) Wise.
Born May 19, 1928, on the family farm in Red Lion, a son of the late William H. and Blanche B. (Bisker) Wise, he graduated from Red Lion High School and enlisted in the Army in 1946, serving as a lineman in Tokyo, Japan for one and a half years. After discharge, he attended DeForest Training School in Chicago for 2 years, receiving a diploma in radio and television communications. He worked as a radio and WGAL TV transmitter operator for over 30 years. After retiring, he pursued his ambition to do over-the-road truck driving for 10 years.
He truly loved spending time with his family. Many meals, games, and celebrations were enjoyed in the family sunroom. He was always very involved in his children’s lives and was proud of all their accomplishments. He had a lifelong desire to learn about history, geography, and the world and was everyone’s first choice when playing trivia games. Over the years he enjoyed traveling, camping, playing cards, games, and Words With Friends, gardening, especially tomatoes and dahlias, and listening to Glenn Miller and classical music. He worked at the election polls for many years and also spent time fixing TVs, as well as anything else that needed to be repaired, installed or maintained around the house. He had a wonderful sense of humor and some of his favorite quotes that he will be remembered for include, “bummer”, “are we having fun yet”, “hard to believe”, “do you think you’ll ever be the same”, and “the old coot”.
In addition to his wife of 65 years, Mr. Wise is survived by two daughters, Wendy K. Erwine, and her husband Jack, of York, and Nancy Ann Wise, of Manchester, a son, Martin E. Wise, and his wife Kathleen, of Wyoming, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren, Brian E. Wise, of Philipsburg, Jamie W. (Wise) Parlak, and her husband Kevin, of Orlando, Florida, and Timothy J.G. Erwine, and his wife Melissa, of York; four great grandchildren; a sister W. Leona (Wise), widow of Clair D. Stump, of York; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
