Claudia C. Cortes, age 51, of York Township, York, passed away peacefully at her residence on Wednesday, April 15, 2026. She was the companion of nine years to Thomas Y. Thornton. She is also survived by Thomas’ daughter, Bree Ann Adams, her husband Dan, and their children, Isla, Sydney, and Coast, of Seven Valleys; her lifelong best friend, Oscar Retamoso, of Olney, Maryland, and his devoted family.

Claudia was a woman of warmth, humor, strength, and deep compassion. She attended Catholic high school and carried with her a strong sense of faith and determination throughout her life. Her personality was both silly and funny, yet strong and disciplined, with a soft and loving demeanor. She had a beautiful spirit who always embraced her loved ones, as well as the strangers she had just met.

Claudia and Tom we’re always side by side rehabbing homes, enjoying many beach destinations, constantly goofing off, or just taking quiet walks together with their dogs.

Claudia found great joy in caring for animals and adored her many beloved companions, including three dogs, two cats, and numerous other small pets that filled her home and heart with love. She was an avid reader who enjoyed more than 1000 books throughout her adult life. Always a child at heart, her artistic talent and imagination led her to create a series of whimsical cartoon characters that she always dreamed of publishing one day.

A dedicated athlete, Claudia trained as a long-distance marathon runner and proudly competed in numerous events, including the Marine Marathon in Washington DC. Physical fitness and health were always a priority to her.

Claudia was a beautiful and kind soul who gave so much without ever expecting anything in return. Her generosity and love touched many lives, and she will truly be missed by all who were blessed to know her.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc., 863 South George Street, York, PA 17403, with The Rev. Damon Tritle officiating. A reception with the family and time of sharing will immediately follow the service.
