Daniel Stroup Obituary

Daniel Nevin Stroup, 63 years old, of Mt. Wolf, PA.  Born August 4th, 1958 to the late Faye (Smith) Stroup and Nevin Stroup of Millerstown, Perry County, PA.

He has spent 30 years with his wife Kristin Getz Stroup. He is survived by his 3 children, Ryan Stroup of Camp Hill, PA, Erik Stroup and girlfriend Catherine of Gaithersburg, MD, and his daughter Kalie Stroup Steffee, wife of Zach Steffee of Red Lion, PA. He is also survived by his brother, Adam Stroup and wife Susan of Alexandria, MD.

He graduated from Greenwood High School, Millerstown, PA in 1976. He earned both his bachelor's degree and master’s degree in community psychology from The Pennsylvania State University.

Dan’s career was a lifetime of dedicated service to Disability services in non-profit settings. At the time of death, he was the Executive Director at Disability Empowerment Center (DEC) in Lancaster, PA. Prior to DEC, he worked for The Pennsylvania Consumer Workforce Council as the Executive Director. In 1999, Dan founded Typical Life Corporation and worked there for over 15 years as the Executive Director. Other early years of employment include Bell Socialization Services, where he worked in the Intellectual Disability Department and also met his wife Kris. Other places of employment include Shadowfax Corporation and working as a Direct Care Professional working for Community Services Group supporting adults with Intellectual Disabilities. During the course of his career, he started a business providing in-home tutor services through his company, The Tutor Doctor Lower Susquehanna Valley.

Over the years, Dan received numerous county and state awards and recognition for implementing creative, progressive programs for individuals with disabilities. He served on numerous Board of Directors for non-profits as well as being an active member of several professional groups, including Professional Referral Exchange (PRE) in Lancaster. He was also a member of the Hempfield Area Lions Club.

Dan spent countless years coaching his children for soccer, baseball and softball teams when they were young. He participated in Dreamwrights productions for 7 years with his daughter Kalie.

Dan was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Manchester where he served on church council for several years and acted as Church Council President for a year. He also enjoyed Wednesday morning breakfasts with the Men’s group at Manchester Cafe.

Dan enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, cheering on Philadelphia sports teams, and going to Penn State football games. He was an avid fisherman and his family even called him the “Bass Master”. His favorite holiday was Halloween and he loved planning big parties for family and friends.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Christ Lutheran Church, 66 S Main St, Manchester, with his Pastor, The Rev. Beth Schlegel STS, officiating. A reception with the family will immediately follow.  Visitation will be 5-7PM Friday at William E. Little Funeral Homes, Inc., 60 South Main Street, Manchester.
