David P. Michaels, 57, passed away on October 11, 2024 at his home in York. He was the husband of Barbara (McIntire) Michaels.

Dave was born September 14, 1967 in Sunbury, PA a son of John and Helen (Lower) Michaels. He retired in 2019 as Fire Chief of the York City Fire Department where he served for 29 years. During this time, he graduated from the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program, and he earned his Master’s Degree in Emergency Management Services. After retirement he worked for Gladfelter Insurance Group in training and education.

In addition to his wife of 32 years, Chief Michaels is survived by two daughters, Holly Pretz and her husband Mark and Amelia Crabill and her husband Donny. He enjoyed being Pop-Pop to his five grandchildren: Amelia Rose, Michael, Sloan, Henry and June. He was the big brother of Julie, Brian and Amy Michaels.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00pm on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at Saint Matthew Lutheran Church, 839 West Market Street in York with the Reverend Kevin Shively officiating. A burial in Prospect Hill Cemetery will follow. Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc, 863 South George Street, York, is in charge of arrangements.

Dave was a very dedicated servant to the people of York and loved his family and friends deeply. He believed in working hard, reading to better oneself, and providing a quiet and steady leadership on a fire scene and in his life.
