On April 16, 2025, David Eaton Stauffer, Jr., of Spring Garden Township, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home. He was in the presence of the love of his life, Joan (Fritchman) Stauffer.
Born October 19, 1931, in York, a son of the late David E. and Bertha (Behler) Stauffer.
David graduated from York High in 1949 and was a member of the football team and state championship basketball team. He attended Grove City College, where he played football and was a member of the Pan Sophic Fraternity. During this time, he was introduced to Joan by mutual friends, which would ultimately lead to 73 wonderful years of marriage.
After college he served in the US Navy from 1953 to 1956 and achieved the rank of Lieutenant while commanding the USS Merrick vessel. After his tenure in the US Navy, he served in the US Naval Reserves for thirteen years, with two of these years being active duty.
His professional life was devoted to the family business, D.F. Stauffer Biscuit Company, where he ultimately retired as President and Chairman. David earned many accolades, which included Baker of the Year, President of the Cookie & Snack Bakers Association and was a board member of the Biscuit and Cracker Manufacturers Association. Taking an active part in his community was important to David. He was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ, a President of the Country Club of York, a member of the Rotary Club of York, President of the Easter Seals of York, member of SCORE of York and Life Member of the York Fair.
David was well known for his kind heart and joyful smile. He enjoyed hearing about others and spending time with friends, however nothing gave him greater joy than his family. He is survived by his daughter, Dianne Stauffer Reynolds, and her husband Neville, of Gloucester, Virginia; and two sons, Rodney Calvin Stauffer of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and David Scott Stauffer, and his wife Jill, of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. He lit up just being in the presence of his five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Calvin F. Stauffer; and a sister, Helen S. Joseph.
While David was fortunate enough to live a long and happy life, his absence will most certainly be felt by those remaining. As a testament to his character, pass along a smile and a joyful laugh to those around you. He was surrounded by the best caretakers in the world during the last six months of his life that provided him with love, peace, and comfort.
