Donald D. Cook, age 87, of West Manchester Township, York, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 19, 2022 at his residence.  He was the husband of Shirley Ruth (Henry) Cook.

Born December 23, 1934, in York, the only child of the late David Smyser Cook and the late Josephine Ola (Becker) Cook, he was a 1954 graduate of the old West York High School (on West Philadelphia Street), He served honorably in the US Navy, Interior Communications Electrician-Second Class, Gyro Specialist IC2 aboard the USS Boston and is a Plank Owner of the USS Providence CLG-6 and received the Good Conduct Medal.  He was employed by Guy Brodbeck, Electrical Contractor Seven Valleys, York Lighting, Inc. York and retired from Fincor Electronics Division of IMO York as Production Superintendent in 2000 after 33 years.  Following his retirement he was an avid drummer in many bands throughout York County including the Emigsville Community Band, Red Lion-Felton Community Concert Band, Dockenspielers German Band, The Duke Street Deacons Dixie and Jazz Band, along with the York Forest TCL and York County Shrine Club bands.

He was an active lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church York, where he served on the Church Council for several terms, as well as numerous committees along with sharing many hours of his time and talent on church projects.  He was one of the founding members of the church’s hand bell choir.  He was a member of Lutheran Men’s Club of York County, West York VFW Post #8951, a Life Member of the York County Agricultural Society since 1980, member Zeredatha-White Rose Lodge #451 F.&A.M. of Pennsylvania since 1957 and was awarded the R.W. Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Mason of Pennsylvania Sixty Year Masonic Service Emblem in 2017 and attained the rank of 32 degree Harrisburg Consistory Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry Valley of Harrisburg Pennsylvania in 1969, The Square Club of York PA No. 1052, 50 year Life Member and Past Scribe of York Forest #30 Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Past Treasurer/Acting Secretary for many years of York County Shrine Club and a 50 year member of Zembo Shrine Harrisburg who share a philanthropy of Shriners Hospitals for Children – Don was a driver for the transportation unit making 79 trips taking children and their families to the Shriners Hospital in Philadelphia from York County for treatments.  The Potentate and 1,600 members of the Zembo Shrine, proudly applauded Don Cook’s dedication to God, Family and Community; in grateful recognition thereof proudly proclaimed December 23, 2021 to be “Don Cook Day” throughout the Zembo Oasis.

In addition to his wife of 61 years, Mr. Cook is survived by a daughter, Melissa A. Cook, of York.

A viewing will be held on Friday, May 27, 2022 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc., 863 South George Street, with Masonic Service at 6:45 PM.  Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM Saturday, May 28, 2022, in the nave of Christ Lutheran Church, 29 S. George Street, York, with his Pastor, The Rev. Dr. Alan J. Watt, officiating.  Viewing will be 12:00-1:00 in the parlor.  Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, with full military honors presented by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
