Douglas W. “Doug” Runkle, age 82, of Springettsbury Township, York, died at 2:06 PM Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at UPMC Memorial. He was the beloved companion of Barbara E. Blank for 37 years.
Born September 21, 1941, in York, a son of the late Walter A. and Mildred W. (White) Runkle, he retired from Central School District after 28 years. He later worked as an assistant manager for East York Exxon for 12 years, and W. Craig Adams Construction for 4 years. He was a life member of the 13th Ward Democratic Club and was also a member of the Hawk Gunning Club, Hellam VFW, and Pleasureville American Legion.
Mr. Runkle is survived by, three stepsons, James Burger (Cyndy), Trevor Burger, and Kenneth Baker; three stepdaughters, Elizabeth Cooper, Debra Kottmyer, and Sherry Shank; and three siblings, Donna C. Berlin, Dwight W. Runkle, and Debra M. Lombardo. He was also preceded in death by a stepson, Gerald Baker.
A memorial service is scheduled for 6:00 PM Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at Kreutz Creek Presbyterian Church, 82 Old Church Lane, York, with a visitation 4:30-6:00 PM. A reception will immediately follow. Workinger Semmel Funeral Homes and Cremation, 849 East Market Street, York, is in charge of arrangements.
