Dr. Ronald L. Klimes, MD, age 87 of Springettsbury Township, York, passed away at home on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, with his family present. He was the husband of Linda A. (Martin) Klimes.
Born April 1936, in Baltimore, Maryland, a son of the late Dr. Louis F. and Emily L. (Lapacek) Klimes, he attended Baltimore City College, Johns Hopkins University, and the University of Maryland Medical School. He practiced family medicine in East York for more than 31 years. While a doctor he was the company doctor for multiple corporations and businesses in York. Along with being the York Suburban School Physician. He was a member of the York County Medical Society, where he served as President, and the Pennsylvania Medical Society. He was also a former member of the Optimist Club.
He loved spending time with his family in Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay and on their boat cruising along the East coast on the Inter Coastal Waterways to Florida for winters. He also enjoyed woodworking and hand crafting furniture for his family. His adventures included Boy Scouts as a youth, and summers working at the Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico. Winters were spent outside enjoying snowmobiling in upstate Pennsylvania, and the Adirondack Mountains in New York. He also served as a captain in the United States Army during Viet Nam.
In addition to his wife of 61 years, Dr. Klimes is survived by three sons, David A. Klimes, Larry M. Klimes, and his partner Kenneth Silver, and Brian L. Klimes, and his wife Christina, of York; two grandsons, Benjamin, and Riley Klimes; and a brother, Fred A. Klimes, and his wife Phyllis, of Hanover.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc., 863 South George Street, York, with The Rev. Tab Cosgrove officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 PM. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery with military rites provided by The York County Veterans Honor Guard.
