Elizabeth J. Hayes “Betty” passed away on May 19, 2024, at the age of 93 in York, Pennsylvania. She was born on October 26, 1930, to the late Michael and Theodora Wojciechowski in Rochester, New York. She was the wife of the late Honorable Edward D. Hayes. She retired from Kodak where she worked as an Administrative Assistant.
She is survived by her children, Michael Born and his wife Brigitte, of Portland, Oregon, Stephen Born and his wife Ruth, of South Dansville, New York, and Kathleen Sloan and her husband Michael, of Dover, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren Daniel Born, Andrea Horowitz, Brian Sloan, and David Sloan; and two great grandchildren Miles Horowitz and Jane Margaret Born. She was also preceded in death by two sisters Violet Warren and Ellen Temp.
She was an avid reader who enjoyed storytelling and was an aspiring writer. She valued her Polish heritage and produced a detailed memoir of her family’s history in Poland and America including their struggles and triumphs as immigrants and the challenges of growing up during the Depression. Always very family oriented, she derived great pleasure from creating beautiful homes where she hosted holiday gatherings and family picnics. Challenges were met with strength and head-on determination and she stood up for others as well as herself.
She loved classical music, gardening, being outdoors, animals, collecting vintage glassware, and watching Tiger Woods play golf.
