Eugene Hughes Obituary

Eugene Hughes, age 93, of Newberry Township, Manchester, died at 5:40 PM Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Kingston Court Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation in York. He was the husband of Patrica Ann (Beard) Hughes.

Born July 16, 1931, in Newberry Township, he was a son of the late John and Cora (Crone) Hughes.  He was inducted into the US Army in 1952, serving in Korea as a member of the 45th Division, 120th Engineers; 45th Quartermasters and 265th Quartermasters.  He was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal.  He began his working carer at St. Regis Paper Company in Mount Wolf.  He then began his 30-year career with the US Postal service, from which he retired.  He also retired from the Pennsylvania Auto Dealers Exchange.

He was a member of the White Rose Chapter of Disabled American Veterans, York County Korean Veterans Association, 45th Division Association, Shiloh American Legion, Mount Wolf Veterans of Foreign Wars, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, National Rifle Association, and Starview Sportsmen’s Association.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Hughes is survived by a son, Steven E. Hughes, and his wife Justine, of York Haven; a daughter, Debra J. Sidesinger, and her husband George, of Manchester; three stepchildren, Cynthia Livingston, and her husband Martin “Pete”, of Clemmons, North Carolina, Michael Clark, and his wife Michelle, of Moorestown, New Jersey, and Douglas Clark, and his wife Marty, of York; seven grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his six siblings, Betty Smith, Hazel Erb, Helen Stetler, Bernard Hughes, Ralph Hughes, and Stanley Hughes.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 Monday, January 6, 2025, at William E. Little Funeral Homes, Inc., 60 South Main Street, Manchester, with military rites presented by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial will be private.
