George L. Foley, Jr.

West Manchester Township - George L. Foley, Jr., age 80, of West Manchester Township, York, died at 1:30 PM Friday, April 30, 2021 surrounded by family at Normandie Ridge. He was the husband of the late Anselma E. "Nancy" (McAfee) Foley.

Born November 9, 1940 in Pittsburgh, George was the son of the late George L. and Margaret (Laverty) Foley Sr. He retired as President of York Casket Company. He was recognized as a tireless promoter of the funeral profession. Over the course of his career, he addressed countless professional and civic groups about the importance of funerals to society. He was an avid sailor, woodworker, and Distinguished Toastmaster. George was also the Original Founding Board Vice President of Olivia's House, a grief center for children.

Mr. Foley is survived by three sons, George L. Foley, III, and his wife Laurie, of Dallastown, Michael J. Foley, and his Partner Troy Snyder, of Harrisburg, and Timothy J. Foley, and his wife Melissa, of Nags Head, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Kate Young and her husband Adam, of York, Megan McDonald and her husband Michael, of Portland, Oregon, Mary Wilson and her husband Joseph, of Philadelphia, and Kira Foley, of Washington, DC; and three great grandchildren, James, Henry, and Edward Wilson, of Philadelphia. George is preceded in death by his brother, Jack Foley, and sisters-in-law Barbara and Diane Foley. He is survived by sisters and brothers, MaryEllen Bosack (Joseph), Jim Foley, Cathy Gangloff (Wayne), and Francis (Eileen), and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, May 6, 2021, at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church, 251 East Main Street, Dallastown, with The Rev. Charles Persing as Celebrant. There will be a viewing from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 5th, at Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc., 863 South George Street, York. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens following the Mass.
