George Charles Mitch, age 89, of York Township, York, died at 7:05 AM Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Yorkview Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was the husband of Henrietta E. (Hertzog) Mitch.

Born October 22, 1934, in Binghamton, New York, the son of the late Charles and Wilhomena (Wachatschek) Mitch, he graduated from Binghamton North High School in 1952, and earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Union College in Schenectady, New York in 1956, and a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State in 1962. He was employed at Borg-Warner, York International, and Johnson Controls for 37 years in the Sound and Vibration Lab, Advanced Engineering Development, and as manager of the Product Performance Testing Lab. He was a Professional Engineer and belonged to the Acoustical Society of America and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He was a longtime member of the Board of the York Symphony Orchestra and designed the staging of the orchestra for 30 years. He was also a member of Saint Matthew Lutheran Church.

In addition to his wife of 61 years, he is survived by a son, Dr. Michael G. Mitch, and wife Karen, of Gaithersburg, Maryland; grandsons, Ryan and Justin Mitch; and a niece and nephew. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ethel Coroniti.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Saint Matthew Lutheran Church, 839 West Market Street, York, with his Pastor, The Rev. Kevin Shively, officiating. Viewing will be from 10:00-11:00 AM. Private burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc., 863 South George Street, York, is in charge of arrangements.
