George P. Ziegler, III

George P. Ziegler, III, age 81, of Springettsbury Township, York, died at 6:10 AM Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Amoroso Wellness of York. He was the husband of Sue A. (Rutledge) Ziegler.

Born December 25, 1941, in York, the only child of the late George P. and Ruth L. (McCleaf) Ziegler, Jr., he earned his Bachelor’s Degree at Millersville State Teachers College, and Master’s Degree at Loyola College.  He then continued his studies at the University of Madrid in Spain.  He was a Spanish Teacher for York City Schools for 30 years, where he also worked as an Administrative Assistant at William Penn High School and ran the Bearcat Den Concession Stand for many years.  Additionally, he worked as an Adjunct Professor for 10 years at the York campus of Penn State University. After retirement he worked as a Golf Ranger at Heritage Hills. He was a member of Victory Athletic Association, and was an avid gardener and woodworker.

In addition to his wife of 37 years, Mr. Ziegler is survived by a son, Christopher D. Ziegler, and his wife Molly, of Mount Wolf; and two granddaughters, Kelsey and Sydney Ziegler.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM Friday, August 25, 2023, at Workinger Semmel Funeral Homes and Cremation, 849 East Market Street, York, with The Rev. David Tietje officiating.  Viewing will be 9:00-10:00 AM.  Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
