Glenn D. Himes, Sr., age 87, of York, died at 1:00 PM Friday, April 23, 2021at
Wellspan York Hospital. He was the husband of the late Anna M. (Holtzapple)
Himes and longtime companion to Merle Stonesifer.
Born September 29, 1933 in York, a son to the late William and Emma
(Kohler) Himes, he had served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and
was retired from Consolidated Freight. He was a member of Pleasureville
American Legion Post 799, VFW Post #556, Yorkanna Game and Gun Club,
Twelfth Ward Democratic Club, and also enjoyed fishing, golfing and baseball.
Mr. Himes is survived by a son, Glenn D. Himes, Jr. and his wife Jody, of York;
two daughters, Peggy A. Collier and her husband Willard, of Seven Valleys
and Charlotte P. Merrill, of York; eight grandchildren, Lacey Himes, Mandy
Gerhart, Scott Densel, Kelly Densel, Kim Pina, Tina Diop, Allison Hartman,
and Shawn Hedrick; numerous great grandchildren; and three brothers;
Alvin, Preston, and Stanley Himes. He was also preceded in death by nine
brothers and sisters.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 AM Friday, April 30, 2021 at The
Semmel Chapel of Workinger Semmel Funeral Homes and Cremation, 849
East Market Street, York. Viewing will be 9:30-10:30 AM. Burial will be in
Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, with military rites presented by the York
County Veterans Honor Guard.
