H. Roger Miller, Jr., 70, of Spring Garden Township, York, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Roger shared 45 cherished years of marriage with his beloved wife, Kathryn L. (Mann) Miller.
Born on April 15, 1955, in York, Roger was the son of the late H. Roger Miller, Sr. and Doris (Hursh) Miller. A graduate of York College of Pennsylvania, he went on to build a successful career in finance, retiring from Johnson & White Wealth Management. But Roger’s life was defined far more by his service to others and his deep-rooted values.
Roger was an active member of Spry Church, where he lived his faith through hands-on service—volunteering with the food pantry, the eucharistic team, and the mission team. He previously was a member of New Fairview Church of the Brethren. He extended his spirit of service into the community, serving on the York Suburban School Board for eight years. A gifted leader and mentor, he also coached women’s basketball at both York Suburban High School and York College, positively impacting the lives of countless young athletes.
Above all, Roger treasured his roles as husband, father, and "Pop Pop" to his nine grandchildren. He was a godly man whose presence brought peace, and whose encouragement strengthened the hearts of his children and grandchildren. He found immense joy in family gatherings and took pride in watching his children become loving parents themselves.
Throughout his life Roger especially loved basketball and golf. In his later years, he developed a passion for running. When his sons each completed a marathon, Roger would not be outdone. At age 60, he bested all of their times, qualified for, and completed the Boston Marathon in 2016. During retirement, Roger and Kathy traveled the world and shared quiet moments at the beach, treasuring the simple joys of life and the beauty of the world around them.
In addition to his wife, Roger is survived by his four children, Dr. Jordan D. Miller, and his wife Tamara, of Lexington, Kentucky, Lara M. Owlett, and her husband Wade, of Wellsboro, Dr. Christopher R. Miller, and his wife Sarah, of Lancaster, and Dr. Benjamin P. Miller, and his wife Hannah, of Wellsboro; his nine adoring grandchildren—Evelyn, Jackson, Adeline, Samuel, Hudson, Graham, Rory, Marlowe, and Nellie; and two sisters, Joan L. Flickinger, and her husband Bruce, of York, and Barbara J. Strohman, and her husband Harry, of York. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Glen E. Miller.
A funeral service to celebrate Roger’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Spry Church, 50 School Street, York. Pastor Ken Loyer will officiate. Interment will be private at New Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc., 863 South George Street, York.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Spry Church, 50 School Street, York, PA 17403. Roger’s legacy of love, service, and faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
