Helen L. Diehl, age 90, of Spring Garden Township, York, died at 10:37 PM Friday, November 17, 2023, at her residence. She was the wife of the late Albert J. Diehl, who died August 31, 2023.
Born April 22, 1933, in York, a daughter of the late Luther and Pauline (Klinedinst) Lehr, she had been employed at the family-owned Diehl Motor Company, and prior to that had worked in payroll for George Motter Company, and York Hospital.
She was a member of Saint Matthew Lutheran Church and, prior to that, the former Messiah Lutheran Church. She had served on the Board of Directors of the Strand Capital Performing Arts Center, and the Children’s Home of York. She had also served as the co-coordinator of Daffodil Days for the American Cancer Society. She and her husband were well-known for their philanthropic generosity, including Saint Matthew Lutheran Church, York College of Pennsylvania, Logos Academy, and ACCESS York, to name a few.
Mrs. Diehl is survived by a daughter, Kathy A. Amspacher, and her husband Preston, of Hendersonville, North Carolina; a granddaughter, Alecia R. Amspacher; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a son, John C. Diehl; and six sisters, Madelyn Thompson, Mary Ashton, Dorothy Warner, Catherine Routson, Mildred Hoofnagle, and Pauline Giambalvo.
A combined funeral service to recognize the well-lived lives of both Helen and Albert Diehl is scheduled for 10:00 AM Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Saint Matthew Lutheran Church, 839 West Market Street, York, with their Pastor, The Rev. Kevin T. Shively, officiating. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery. Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc., 863 South George Street, York, is in charge of arrangements.
