Henrietta “Barb” Ellis, age 92, passed away September 11, 2024, at Inners Creek Nursing Home. She was the wife of Preston “Pret” Ellis. Together they operated Ellis Bros 66 Service Station.
Barb was born March 19, 1932, to Clarence and Henrietta Wetzel in York, PA.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Deb and Rob Mauck, daughter-in-law, Mary Jo Ellis and grandchildren, Brandy (Alan) Pyrcz, Robert Mauck (Brigid Reilly), Brenda Jo (Donny) Travers, and Amanda Ellis. In addition, she leaves five great grandchildren, Savannah, Bailey and Danielle Travers, and Toby and Chance Ellis.
She is also survived by sister, Pat Malehorn, and brother, Daniel “Dee” Wetzel and wife Paula, and brother-in-law Dale Spahr.
Barb was preceded in death by her husband “Pret” and two sons, Preston “Bub” and John Daniel Ellis, brother, Clarence Wetzel, sisters, Ethel “Butchie” Backel (Art) and Linda Spahr, and brother-in-law, James Malehorn.
Barb enjoyed time with her family and her church. She valued all the years teaching Sunday School and Bible School at Grace Lutheran. She especially enjoyed class meetings where Pastors Tom and Judy joyfully participated in her shenanigans.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Inners Creek for the loving care they showed to mom and our family.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 PM Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at Workinger Semmel Funeral Homes and Cremation, 849 East Market Street, York, with The Reverend William C. Snyder officiating. Viewing will be from 12:30-1:30 PM. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 150 Jefferson Avenue, York, PA 17401.
