James W. Welty, age 67, of York, died at 10:00 AM Sunday, November 23, 2025, at his residence. He was the husband of Lisa J. (Holovnia) Welty.

Born November 10, 1958, in York, he was a son of the late William and Jean (Fiedler) Welty.  He was a 1976 graduate of William Penn High School, and then served in the US Marine Corps. He retired from School District of the City of York and later retired as Deputy Director of York County Office of Emergency Management, having first served there as Nuclear Planner. He was a member of 13th Ward Political Club, Vigilant Social Club, Victory Athletic Association, Shiloh American Legion, Marine Corps League, Firefighters Association of York County, Foremen-Presidents-Fire Chiefs Association, Eagle Fire Company, Lincoln Fire Company, Vigilant Fire Company, and the York City Fireman’s Relief Association.  He had also served as Assistant Chief of the York County Hazmat Team.

Over the years, when not fighting fires or responding to HazMat calls, Jim could often be found reading, playing cards with friends, attending Hershey Bears hockey games, visiting Lisa’s family in Massachusetts, vacationing in Maine, or just relaxing with Oss and family having a beer or two. His many nieces and nephews brought much joy. As a young man, Jim (as well as John and Steve), proudly attained the rank of Eagle Scout. A simple, down-to-earth man, Jim took the greatest pleasure in being surrounded by his family and friends and was always willing to help anyone who asked.

We will all miss him.

In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by a brother, Steve Welty of Pottstown. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Welty.

Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00PM Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc., 863 South George Street, York, with The Rev. Joel Folkemer officiating, with flag presentation provided by The York County Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be 1-3:00 PM.
