James E. Wertz, Sr. Obituary

James E. Wertz, Sr., age 85, of Conewago Township, Dover, died at 9:07 AM Saturday August 30, 2025, at Wellspan York Hospital. He was the husband of Jacqueline Y. (Beck) Wertz.

Born November 19, 1939, in Goldsboro, a son of the late Marlet and Anna (Topper) Wertz.  He first served in the US Army during the Viet Nam War and later worked for Roadway Express from where he retired after 31 years of employment.  He was a member of York Seventh-day Adventist Church, Teamster Local #176, Shiloh American Legion and the VFW.

In addition to his wife of 64 years, Mr. Wertz is survived by two sons, James E. Wertz, II, and his wife Leigh, of Dover, Timothy S. Wertz, and his wife Yvette, of York; four daughters, Karen K. Ciapanna, and her husband Frank, of Coral Springs, Florida, Margaret E. “Betsy” Christie, and her husband Rick, of Carlisle, Malinda A. Holt, and her husband Howard, Jr., of Arora, Colorado, and Kathy L. Paduhovich, of York; sixteen grandchildren, thirty-two great grandchildren; and a brother, Marlet Wertz. He was also preceded in death by a son, Craig R. Wertz; a son-in-law, Nick Paduhovich; a brother, Bart Wertz; and three sisters, Gwen Updegraff, Pat Clouser, and Barbara Albright.

Funeral services are scheduled for 12:00 PM Sunday, September 7, 2025, at York Seventh-day Adventist Church, 2220 Roosevelt Avenue, York, with his Pastor, Randy Nims, officiating. Viewing will be from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM. Burial will be in Suburban Memorial Gardens with military rites presented by The York County Veterans Honor Guard. William E. Little Funeral Homes, Inc, 2150 Carlisle Road, York, is in charge of arrangements.
