Janet E. Abel Obituary

Janet E. Abel, age 90, of York, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at 2:34 PM Sunday, June 28, 2026 at Kelly Manor. She was the loving wife of the late Philip E. Abel.


Born April 26, 1936, in Gettysburg, she was a daughter of the late Harry E. and Mary (Good) Bridendolph. She had been employed in retail sales for Danskin and, prior to that, Grants Stores.  She was an active member of Mount Zion United Church of Christ, where she participated in the Woven Threads Bible Study.  She dearly loved her family and friends and was beloved by them.


Mrs. Abel is survived by a son, Jeffrey L. Abel, and his wife, Susan, of York; a daughter, Lisa K. Crouse, and her husband, Michael, of State College; her daughter-in-law, Lisa Abel, of Newtown Square; her sister-in-law, Linda Abel of York; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; and a brother, John Bridendolph of Bowie, MD. She was also preceded in death by a son, Michael T. Abel; a brother, Charles Bridendolph; and a sister, Helen Carbaugh.


Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 AM Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Mount Zion United Church of Christ, 1054 Ridgewood Road, York, PA 17406. Viewing will be from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. Private burial will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery. Workinger Semmel Funeral Homes and Cremation, 849 East Market Street, York, is in charge of arrangements.
