Janet K. Stump, age 98, of York, died at 8:59 AM Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Misericordia Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Chester R. Stump. Together they celebrated 75 years of marriage before his passing in December 2022.

Born October 28, 1927, in Jacobus, the daughter of the late Hamilton and Edna (Beck) Joseph, she was a graduate of William Penn High School. She first worked at Rehmeyer’s Supply, and then for the Jacobus Post Office before the building was built. Most recently she worked for the former Leader Interiors, retiring after 28 years of employment.  She was a member of Salem Christian Church in Jacobus.

Janet was an exceptionally talented, self-taught “chef”, who enjoyed gardening and then using fresh produce in her recipes. Her well cared for flower gardens reflected her beautiful soul. She lived by the biblical principle of putting others ahead of herself and her children and husband were always first in her life. To her children, she was our friend, our confidant, and our moral compass.

Mrs. Stump is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Schaefer, and her husband Charles, of York; and a son, David C. Stump, and his wife Louise, of Johnson City, Tennessee.  She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Julie Stump; and a brother, Stanley Joseph.

Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc., 863 South George Street, York, is in charge of private funeral arrangements, with her Pastor, Kevin Becker, officiating.  Burial will be in Salem Union Cemetery, Jacobus.
