Janet L. (Smith) Nicholas Obituary

Janet L. Nicholas, age 96, formerly of York, died at 9:45 PM Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Pleasant Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was the wife of the late John E. Nicholas, Jr.

Born March 6, 1929, in York, a daughter of the late Phares and Dorothy (Merkert) Smith, she was the former owner of the Spring Garden Tavern.

Mrs. Nicholas is survived by two grandchildren, Jason D. Riley, of York, and Lauren M. Emig, of Abbottstown; and two sisters, Joyce Smith and Barbara Adams. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Joni L. Riley; and a son, William Nicholas.

Workinger Semmel Funeral Homes and Cremation, 849 East Market Street, York, is in charge of private funeral arrangements.
