Jay P. Yinger, age 88, of Manchester Township, York, died at 5:30 AM Friday, March 17, 2023, at York Hospital. He was the husband of Doris N. (Creager) Yinger.
Born August 14, 1934 on the family farm in East Manchester Township, he was the son of the late Russell and Anna Marie (Diehl) Yinger. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Shippensburg College and taught Business at Red Lion High School for 36 years. He also served as Manchester Township Parks and Recreation Director for more than 20 years, and taught Hunter Safety for the Game Commission for 53 years. He was a member of Fourth United Methodist Church and Starview Sportmen’s Association, where he had served as President.
Jay enjoyed the great outdoors. He was often found camping, hunting, and fishing. He had a great appreciation for wildlife and enjoyed traveling to see all that the world had to offer.
In addition to his wife of 66 years, Mr. Yinger is survived by a daughter, Lisa R. Yinger, of York; a grandson, Kenneth C. “KC” Yinger, and his wife Stephanie, of York; and a granddaughter, Sarah M. Matarese, and her fiancé Jason, of Street, Maryland. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys Sharp and Janet Shaffer.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM Saturday March 25, 2023 at Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc., 863 South George Street, York, with his Pastor, Matthew Loyer, officiating. Viewings will be 5-7:00 PM Friday, and 9-10:00 AM Saturday. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery.
