John Karabas, age 77, of Springettsbury Township, York, died 8:45 PM Saturday, May 28, 2022 at Wellspan York Hospital.
Born October 30, 1944 in Katouna Greece, a son of the late Georgios and Amalia (Paveli) Karabas, he was the owner of Best Auto Sales.
Mr. Karabas is survived by his beloved former spouse, Irini Karabas, of York; a daughter, Paraskevi “Vicky” Sgagias, and her husband Dino, of York; a son, Dionissios “Dennis” Karabas, of York; two grandchildren, Thanasi and Natalia Sgagias; five brothers, Dionissios Karabas, of Greece, Apostolos Karabas, of Greece, Nikos Karabas, of New York, Stavros Karabas, of Pennsylvania, and Christos Karabas, of Pennsylvania; a sister, Annoula Mantoglou, of Greece; and many nieces and nephews.
John was known by most as “Proederos”, his nickname, meaning President in Greek. He emigrated to the United States in 1970 and pioneered the way for many who followed. His charismatic personality touched the lives of all he knew. A kind soul, with a big heart; he was the most giving man, and he will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
A gathering for family, friends, and all who wish to celebrate Mr. Karabas’ life will be held at The Great American Saloon, 20 Dairyland Square, Red Lion PA 17356, on Friday, June 3, 2022 from 11am-2pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Philoptochos (“friends of the poor”) of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 2500 Pine Grove Road, York PA 17403.
