John A. Rebert, age 96, of West Manchester Township, York, passed away Friday, August 1, 2025, at Celebration Villa of Dillsburg. He was the husband of the late Mary A. (Feeman) Rebert whom he married on July 27, 1958. He is survived by sons, Jephrey and Gregory, three grandchildren and two great grandsons. He was born in Littlestown, PA on June 14, 1929, the son of the late George and Edith (Withers) Rebert. He graduated from Littlestown High School in 1947.

Mr. Rebert was an educator having spent 50 years in that profession. He was a graduate of Shippensburg University and Western Maryland (McDaniel) College, in addition to completing coursework at the University of Maryland, Fordham University (Bronx Campus) and Temple University (Harrisburg Campus). After serving three years with the Army Security Agency while stationed in Virginia, he began his teaching career as a business education teacher in the schools of Maryland. Upon returning to PA, he was employed as a guidance counselor in the Bermudian Springs and West York School Districts.

In 1967, he accepted a position with the PA Department of Education in Harrisburg where he was employed for 19 years ending his career there as the State’s Director of Teacher Preparation and Certification. In 1984, he was designated the Employee of the Year, the first year that this honor was awarded. Following his retirement from public education, he took an administrative position with the Yorktowne Business Institute where he remained for 17 years.

He was a member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church on Trinity Road where he served in a number of lay positions. Also, he was a member of the PA State Employees Retirement Association.

Funeral services are scheduled for 12:30 PM Friday, August 8, 2025, at Saint Paul Lutheran Church, 250 Trinity Road, York, with The Rev. Paul W. Gausman and The Rev. Sara A. Gausman officiating. Viewing will be from 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM. Burial will be in Saint Paul’s Wolf’s Church Cemetery. William E. Little Funeral Homes, Inc., 2150 Carlisle Road, York, is in charge of arrangements.
