Joseph P. Matukonis, Sr., age 77, of Shrewsbury Township, Shrewsbury, died at 10:05 PM Sunday, May 12, 2024, at Wellspan York Hospital. He was the husband of Maureen “Molly” (Walsh) Matukonis.

Born September 4, 1946, in Kingston, Luzerne County, the son of the late Joseph G. and Emma (Drach) Matukonis, he worked as a Russian Linguist for the NSA for 38 years and was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War.

In addition to his wife of 52 years, Mr. Matukonis is survived by a son Joseph P. Matukonis, Jr., and his wife Jennifer, of Edgewater, Maryland; a daughter, Meghan K. Wright, and her husband Charles, of Glenside; three granddaughters, Kaylin, Abby, and Bri Matukonis; and four grand puppies, Scout, Rogue, Tanq, and Stormy.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled from 3:00-9:00 PM Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Stewartstown American Legion Post #455, 19222 Barrens Road, Stewartstown. Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc., 863 South George Street is in charge of arrangements.  Private burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
