Judith (Judy) B. Wolfman, age 91, of York, PA, died at 6:45 AM Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Wellspan York Hospital. She was the wife of the late Alvin P. Wolfman.
Born on July 25, 1933, in Washington, DC, she was a daughter of the late Nathan and Rose (Rosenblum) Koenig. She earned a bachelor's degree from Penn State University in Child Development and after 26 years, Judy retired from York City School District where she taught Pre-K, First Grade and Developmental First Grade at Ferguson Elementary. Additionally, she was an Adjunct professor for a total of ten years at various local colleges.
Mrs. Wolfman is survived by two sons, Scott D. Wolfman, and his wife Gina, of Newtown, Connecticut, and Barry E. Wolfman, of Charlotte, North Carolina; a daughter, Ellen L. Keeney, of Pittsburgh; four grandchildren, Hannah, Tracey, Emma, and Sophie; and a sister, Susan Freed, of Florida. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Martha Bindeman.
Throughout Judy's career and into her late 80s, she loved to write, publishing twenty books, nine plays and over 300 magazine articles, short stories, and poems. Most of her work is fiction for children, but some are historical fiction for all ages.
In 1989 Judy became a professional storyteller and told stories in various venues including foreign countries and on cruise ships. While a resident at Country Meadows in York, Judy told stories, gave talks on her books, and created programs such as a talent show and "Getting to Know You". She also conducted workshops and classes on both storytelling and writing at numerous conferences, conventions, schools, organizations and libraries. Judy founded a Reader’s Theatre troupe that continues performing throughout York County, PA. And as a theatre lover, she volunteered at three local theaters and enjoyed seeing shows free of charge.
Judy enjoyed traveling with her husband in the early part of their retirement years, visiting faraway places including Africa, China, Alaska, and Russia. Judy possessed an insatiable curiosity for the many people she'd meet along the way, delighting in their stories.
