Kathleen E. Arnold, age 64, of Manchester Township, York, passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at WellSpan York Hospital. She was the devoted wife of John F. Arnold.
Born on October 14, 1959, in York, Kathy was the daughter of the late Harry E. and Sarah (Welsh) Buser. She was a proud 1977 graduate of William Penn High School. After graduation, she was employed as an engineer at Johnson Controls (previously known as Borg Warner and York International) from 1977 to 1988. She accepted a position with Bosch, which included working several years in Winston-Salem, NC, before returning to Lancaster, where she worked until her retirement in 2014. Kathy's career in design and engineering was marked by her dedication, hard work, and strong relationships with coworkers.
Kathy loved to travel. She explored many parts of the United States and the world for work and later for pleasure. She drove on the Autobahn, walked on the Great Wall of China, saw the Passion Play in Germany, climbed a volcano in Hawaii, and visited the pyramids in Giza. In recent years Kathy enjoyed traveling with her family and seeing “saltwater smiles” as they made memories in Topsail, North Carolina. Despite her global adventures, she remained deeply connected to her roots in York. As a proud daughter of a World War II veteran, Kathy served in the Shiloh American Legion Auxiliary. She loved animals, caring for many cats during her lifetime (including Bebe, Kitty, Squirt, Whiskers, and Tawny). Kathy volunteered with the York County SPCA and inspired the next generation of animal lovers in her role as a youth group director. She also had a passion for helping the less fortunate in York and was a co-founder and active member of White Rose Outreach. In addition, Kathy was an advocate for early detection of esophageal cancer, having survived her own diagnosis almost a decade ago.
Kathy is survived by her husband, John. They celebrated their thirtieth wedding anniversary in January. She is also survived by John’s three sons, Michael W. Arnold of York; Corey A. Arnold and his wife Edith Myers-Arnold of Madison, New Jersey; and Daniel W. Arnold and his wife Jami Arnold of York. She was the proud and loving grandmother of four grandchildren: Quinn, Jonah, Elias, and Henry. Kathy had a deep love for her family, especially her grandchildren. She would do anything for her grandchildren and truly treasured spending time with them as they grew. She is survived by her brother, David Buser and brother-in-law Charlie Glatfelter. She is also survived by many other family members and by friends who she considered family. Kathy was preceded in death by her brother Rodney Buser and her sister Susan Glatfelter (wife of Charlie).
