Kristine W. Gross, age 81, died on January 28th 2026.  She is the wife of Larry D. Gross, whom she married on September 10, 1966.
Kristine was born on December 24th 1944 in York, PA, the daughter of the late Thelma Mae “Toni” (Berra) Welsh and Dr. John H. Welsh.
Upon graduating from York Suburban H.S.in 1962, she attended Goucher College in Towson, MD, graduating in 1966 having earned a B.S. in Psychology.
Upon graduating she returned to York, working from 1966 to 1972 for Children Services of York County.  She ceased this employment when the couple was blessed with their first child, Elizabeth Ann in 1972, followed with their son, Jonathan Scott just 16 months later.  These two kept her busy at home for the next sixteen years.
In 1988, with both children in high school, the family made the decision to open their own business in Red Lion, PA, an Agway franchise named Capehorn Agway (renamed later to Capehorn Country). The business was a farm, home, garden, and pet center. Kristine and Larry were involved in the business until 2006 when they retired and sold the business to their long-time manager, Ben Geesey, who began working with them when he was 14 years old.
Kristine had many interests throughout her adult life. She joined the Junior League in 1967 which was the impetus to her becoming a community volunteer.  She served on the Mental Health Board (1973 to 1977), a Girl Scout leader (1981 to 1983), served on the Children’s Home Board (1982 to 1988) and The York Hospital Auxiliary Board (1984 to 1988).
Her church was very much a part of her life, thus she served there over the years in many various roles.  She was on the Church Council, taught in the children’s Sunday school program over the years, chaired the Staff/Parish committee, the Witness committee, and the Worship and Arts committee.  Because of her love of gardening, she spent hundreds of hours each year keeping the grounds of the church looking beautiful for the passersby.
She was a member of the Garden Club of York since 2006 and was involved in several book clubs.
Kristine is survived by her husband Larry Gross of York,PA, her daughter Elizabeth Ference (married to Jason Ference) of Swannanoa, NC, her son Jonathan Gross (married to Laura Snyder) of Harrisburg, PA, her grandson Russell Gross (son of Jonathan and Laura) and her sister Susan Cassidy (married to Patrick Cassidy) of Bethany Beach, DE.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday February 4th at 4pm with visitation starting at 3pm at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 25 West Springettsbury Ave, York, PA with her Pastor Stanley Reep officiating. Burial at Susquehanna Memorial Garden will be privately held with the family in attendance.
