Leo Samelson, MD, age 94, of Spring Garden Township, York, died at 9:52 PM Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at his residence. He was the husband of June F. (Nadeau) Samelson.
Born April 7, 1927 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he was a son of the late William and Sarah (Dubin) Samelson. He was a graduate of the University of Chicago, and Harvard Medical School. He served his Internship in Detroit, and Residencies at the VA Medical Center in New Haven, Connecticut, and the Albert Einstein Medical Center in New York. He began is medical career at the United Miners Clinic in California, Pennsylvania, and then moved to York to begin is solo practice in Internal Medicine in 1959. After retiring in 1996 he then taught in the York Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program. He had also served in the United State Navy.
In addition to his wife of 70 years, Dr. Samelson is survived by a daughter, Roberta Samelson Bracken, MD, of Waynesville, North Carolina; a son, Jonathan E. Samelson, and his wife Maria "Lu", of Blue Anchor, New Jersey; and two granddaughters, Katherine and Elizabeth Bracken. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah J. Samelson; a sister, Edith Glickstein; and four brothers, Martin, Charles, Joseph and Sydney Samelson.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 PM Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc., 863 South George Street, York, with Rabbi Marshal Klaven officiating. Viewing will be 12:30-1:30 PM. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, with flag presentation by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
