Lester E. Stambaugh, 90, of New Oxford, passed away January 4, 2022 at the Brethren Home in New Oxford. He was the husband of the late Betty Lou (Kugel) Stambaugh. Lester was born January 21, 1931, in York and was the son of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Falkler) Stambaugh. He graduated from York High School in 1949. He joined the Navy in 1951 and served on the Battleship USS Wisconsin during the Korean War. He was employed with I.B. Abel as an electrician for over 35 years and then with Caterpillar Inc. of York as an electrician until he retired.
He was a youth leader and a seven-year Cub Scout leader at Fourth EUB Church, in the 60’s. He then headed up the sound ministry at the York Gospel Center, overseeing the taping of the KLU Hour. His sound and lighting experience continued as he joined Harmony Grove Church, in Dover PA.
He lived near Emigsville for 60 years before moving to the Brethren Home in New Oxford, PA, in 2007. While there, he was the head of the library, movie night, helped with model trains, the wood shop and was involved with many committees. He was a friend to all.
Lester is survived by his oldest son, Charles Stambaugh and his Susan of Mount Wolf, his daughter, Karen Yingling and her husband Thomas of Jefferson, and his youngest son Mark Stambaugh and his wife Stephanie of York, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, two sisters, Ann Smith of Longs, SC and Linda Bean of York and two brothers, Richard Stambaugh of Colorado Springs, CO and Carl Stambaugh of York, PA.
Due to Covid-19, there will be a graveside service at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, January 11, 2022, that family and friends are welcome to attend at Prospect Hill Cemetery in North York, PA. Please meet at the Pennsylvania Avenue entrance. The family asks all attending to please wear a mask and practice social distancing. His Pastor James Crosley will be officiating. Flag folding and taps will be presented by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. There will be a memorial service at Harmony Grove Church, in Dover, PA, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Harmony Ridge Railroad Club at Cross Keys Village.
