Louis L. Cookson, age 95, of Springettsbury Township, York, died at 5:35 AM Sunday, July 7, 2024, at his residence. He was the husband of Louise I. (Miller) Cookson.
Born January 4, 1929, in Rossville, the son of the late Roy and Mabel (Crone) Cookson, he retired as Construction Superintendent for Epstein Construction after 42 years of employment. He was a member of Aldersgate Church, and White Rose Bridge Club. He was also a former member of the National Rifle Association, and Izaak Walton League of York. He loved hunting and fishing, which he began at a very early age. He also had a passion for nature and the outdoors, as well as gardening and woodworking. He was the definition of a green thumb, and Mr. Fix It, always a phone call away to borrow a tool, or fix anything his family and friends needed.
In addition to his wife of 75 years, whom he met in high school, Mr. Cookson is survived by two daughters, Lori L. Markel, of York, and Lisa L. Dennison, and her husband Lee, of Marlton, New Jersey; a son, Louis S. Cookson, of Lebanon, New Jersey; seven grandchildren, Carley Giannini (Matt), Sean Markel (Lauren), Connor Markel, Lauren Meyer (Tom), Stephen Dennison, Nicholas Cookson (Jodi), and Courtney Hancock (Keith); and nine great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Mitchell Markel; and three sisters, Ruth Haas, Louise Long, and Nancy Conley.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Monday, July 15, 2024, at Aldersgate Church, 397 Tyler Run Road, York, with his Pastor, Bob Kaylor, officiating. A visitation will immediately follow the service. Private burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery. Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc., 863 South George Street, York, is in charge of arrangements.
