Mary Hartman Obituary

Mary Louise Hartman, age 89, of York, died at 7:35 AM Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at Autumn House – East. She was the wife of the late Carl E. Hartman.

Born September 13, 1931 in Berwick, a daughter of the late Richard and Mary Elizabeth (Smethers) McElwee, she was a custodian at Messiah United Methodist Church, where she was a member.  She devoted her time in volunteering at Church and taught the Children’s Sunday School, sang in the choir, was a member of United Methodist Women, and was the kitchen coordinator.  Cooking and baking were her favorite hobbies in life when she wasn’t holding a baby or child. She was her family’s matriarch and enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially the children, who she loved unconditionally.

Mrs. Hartman is survived by her children, Stephen Hartman, and his wife Katrina, of York Haven, Thomas Hartman, and his wife Julie, of York, Mary Elizabeth Niner, and her husband Joseph, of Lexington, North Carolina, and Matthew Hartman and his wife Susan, of Mt. Wolf, son-in-law, Kenneth Siders of York; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and a brother, Ronald McElwee and his wife Gloria, of Chambersburg. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Siders; a brother, Richard McElwee; and a sister, Patricia Russo.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 AM Monday, February 22, 2021 at Messiah United Methodist Church, 1300 North Beaver Street, York, with her Pastor, The Rev. Randall Zeiler, officiating.  Per CDC guidelines, guests attending are asked to wear masks and practice social distancing.  Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 AM.  Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. William E. Little Funeral Homes, Inc., 60 South Main Street, Manchester, is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to York City Day Camp at Messiah United Methodist Church, 1300 N Beaver St, York, PA 17404; or to Scleroderma Foundation of the Delaware Valley, 385 Kings Highway North, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034.
