Norman C. Eckard, Sr. Obituary

Norman C. Eckard, Sr., age 101, of East Manchester Township, died at 6:43 AM Thursday, May 14, 2026, at his residence. He was the husband of the late Kathleen C. (Wagner) Eckard, and the loving longtime companion of Sandra Wilt.

Born June 27, 1924, in Taneytown, Maryland, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary Lee (Crumrine) Eckard.  He was employed by Poff Plumbing, Dietz Naumen, and retired from Caterpillar. He was a member of Northeastern Fish and Game, Mount Wolf VFW, Shiloh American Legion, Zeredatha White Rose Free and Accepted Masons, and the former Strinestown Church.  He served in the United States Marines Corps and was at Iwo Jima at the raising of the flag.

He was a great dad and long before the idea of hands of discipline. He could get our best behavior by simply sitting us down and saying, “Children I’m so disappointed that you misbehave.” We would be so good for months!

He was a great believer that you earn what you’re getting paid for and to do the best you can.

He had a willing hand and heart to give to anyone who needed his help, and he could fix just about anything or figure out how to do it. He wasn’t much of a talker, but when he did you just had to listen because what he said was so interesting.

I don’t think I could’ve had a better childhood and adult life.

My Dad, I will miss him everyday when I milk the cows on keeping the farm looking good. He will be in my thoughts.

He is survived by two daughters, Shauna R. Wolf, of Mount Wolf, and Donna M. Kimmel, of York; ten grandchildren, and their children; and a half sister, Sylvia Lee, of Springfield, Missouri; and his motorcycle buddy, John Snyder. He was also preceded in death by three sons, Norman C. Eckard, Jr., Stanley Eckard, and Robert C. Wagner; and eight siblings.
