Patti Jo Baker Obituary

Patti Jo Baker was the #4 daughter of Jack E & Norma Jean (Innerst) Baker.  Born at York Hospital on November 29, 1960, and passed away on January 24, 2024, at the age of 63.

Patti was a fighter, living every day battling and trying to come to terms with her Epilepsy.  She was quirky, strong willed, hardheaded, a perfectionist, did things her way, had strange eating habits, loved chocolate and snacks, was sometimes difficult to deal with, was hurtful with her words and lashed out, but deep down had a big, beautiful heart that she kept protected.  She worked hard at being a daughter, a sister and "Aunt Patti".  She never married, had a permanent job, or had children of her own.  But she loved her nieces and nephews and their children, too.  Time spent with them, when they would visit, brought so much joy and a smile to her day.  She loved working in her yard on George Street, reading, doing crafts, coloring on her iPad, and watching crazy reality TV.  But her favorite job was being in charge at the family swimming pool on Chronister Street and teaching all the kids how to swim and dive.  Our favorite saying to her was, "Come on Patti, pull on your big girl panties and move forward."  Boy, would that make her laugh!!

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack & Jean Baker (The J Troop), along with her niece's son, Nate Heberlig, and her furry friends, Me-My and Shadow.

Patti was born into a big family-six children all together.  She remembered them by their #'s in her last days battling with Lewy Body Dementia.  Sisters are #1-Wendy Stambaugh, #2-Karen Price (Jimmy), #3-Robin Reed (Duane), #4-Patti, #5-Jackie Taylor (Dave) and brother, #6-Matthew Baker (Michelle).  She didn't want any services, so the family will have her cremated then place her with their parents at Mt. Zion Cemetery on a beautiful spring day at a later date.

The family extends our gratitude to Al Kuhner, Chad Deardorff and Wellspan Ambulance Services, Pappus House, Amy Jansky and her staff, for all they did to bring Patti back to York to spend her last few days in a comfortable, peaceful home setting.  It was amazing to see so many of her family stop by.

Memorial Contributions may be made in Patti's name to the following: The Pappus House, 253 Cherry St, York, PA 17402, the Epilepsy Foundation of Western PA(Research), 1501 Reedsdale Street, Suite 3002 Pittsburgh, PA 15233, and the SPCA of York, 3159 Susquehanna Trail North, York, PA 17406.  Thank you to all who befriended Patti in any way (big or small).  She fought hard until she tired then we whispered, " Pull on your Big Girl Panties and march into Heaven"!  We were by her side until her last breath.  Rest in Peace, Patti Jo.
