Rabbi George J. Astrachan, age 86, of Silver Spring Township, Mechanicsburg, died at 3:23 AM Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Carlisle Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was the husband of Rita F. (Yamin) Astrachan.

Born October 16, 1939, in Rochester, New York, he was the son of the late Louis and Esther (Beckler) Astrachan.  He was a graduate of Miami University of Ohio, and Hebrew Union College Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was ordained in 1967. He retired as Rabbi of Temple Sinai, in Cranston, Rhode Island, and was a member of Temple Ohev Sholom in Harrisburg.

In addition to his wife of 63 years, Rabbi Astrachan is survived by two sons, Rabbi Jeffrey R. Astrachan, and his wife Shelley, of New Port Richey, Florida, and Bruce R. Astrachan, of Enola; four grandchildren, Max, Sid, Abby (Hunter), and Steven; and a sister, Cheryl Feinstein, of Florida.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM Tuesday, November 4, 2025, Mount Moriah Cemetery Chapel, 4245 Jonestown Road, Harrisburg, with his son, Rabbi Jeffrey Astrachan officiating. Burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery. Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc., 863 South George Street, York, is in charge of arrangements.
