Rachael Gromling Obituary

Rachael K. (Musser) Gromling, age 82 , passed away on Monday, April 11, 2022. She was a lifelong resident of Manchester Borough and was very proud of the small town feel. Rachael and her husband, Ivan (Igor) were married for 53 years prior to his death on October 19, 2019.

Rachael was born at home on September 30, 1939 and was a twin.  She was the daughter of the late Aaron (A.B.) and Mary (Hoffman) Musser.   She was a 1957 graduate of Manchester High School, (now Northeastern) and Rachael enjoyed going to monthly class reunions with her friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Kim Perone and her husband Ed; and grandsons, Ben and Connor. Also her youngest brother, Rick and his wife Peggy (Wilt) Musser, numerous nieces, nephews and friends near and far.  She got extra love from Mr and Mrs Jeremy Hackney and Jaden, and Lenny Hackney.

Rachael worked for Jim Anderson’s Tropical Treat where she met Ivan, the Record Club of America until its closing and retired from Human Resources Office at Pleasant Acres Nursing Home where she volunteered after retirement for a number of years. After retirement, she worked part time for the York Dispatch as a receptionist.

Rachael is a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Manchester and its predecessor churches for 70 years and also attended Manchester Assembly of God Church. Rachael was a member of the Pennsylvania Dutch Heritage Group for 27 years and the current secretary and newsletter editor.   She enjoyed learning the Pennsylvania Dutch dialect, and was proud of her PA Dutch roots.  Rachael also enjoyed doing the Lancaster County Best Kept Secrets Tours over the years, reading and learning more about the PA Dutch, organizing the Christmas party for family,  checking Ivan’s Facebook page to see what was happening,  taking long drives and driving the “back way” to Columbia every Wednesday to her favorite restaurant, Hinkle’s with the best waitress, Jess.  She will be remembered for her unrelenting independent spirit and can-do attitude.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Jay and his wife Pauline, Philip and his wife Sylvia, her twin, Robert and his wife Jeanne, her sisters, Ruth Gingerich and her husband Ed, Karen Marshlick, Amelia Miller and an infant sister, Mary L. Musser.  As well as four nephews and one great nephew.

Her family would like to acknowledge with grateful appreciation the services of Dr. Fredrick Shrimp II of York Hospital and the Home Care Division of Hospice and Community Care, specifically, Team Aqua for their dedicated caring.

Visitation will be on Saturday, April 23, 2022 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am and the service will begin at 10:30 am at the William E. Little Funeral Home, 60 South Main Street, Manchester with the Rev. Dr. Eddie D.D. Miller, Visitation Pastor from St. Paul United Methodist Church officiating.  Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
