Rita Dodd, 81, of West Palm Beach, FL passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 19, 2022. Rita was born in Pottsville, PA. She moved to Hazleton as a child and then to Brooklyn, NY. Rita graduated from Midwood High School in Brooklyn.
She married Paul Lieberman and moved back to Hazleton where her three children, Robert, Michael, and Lori were born. She was a full-time Mom and highly active in the Hazleton Jewish Community Center and B’nai B’rith Women where she was an officer and chaired or participated in numerous committees. Rita was renowned for her delicious cooking and baking. From her famous Hot Clam Dip to her amazing Harvey Wallbanger cake Rita wowed with everything from her kitchen. Later, Rita, Paul, and the family moved to York and then to the Stroudsburg area where they were subsequently divorced. Mom met Watson Dodd, fell in love, and got married. They shared their life in York, PA along with their adorable dog Reggie.
Sadly, Watson passed away in 2016 after 30 years of marriage to Rita. After mourning the love of her life, Mom decided to “run away to Florida” to pursue her next life adventure!
For almost the last four years, Rita lived in West Palm Beach in an assisted living community. Maria, Renesha and so many more adopted Rita like family. They looked after her through the good times, the tough times, and her final days. They were all rays of sunshine to Rita and made her life better.
In addition to being terribly missed by her three children, her sister Lynn Fishman and brother-in-law Howie Fishman, Grandma Rita was the proud Grandma to Evan, Aaron, Daniel, and Jack Lieberman (Rob's boys), Joshua and Jordan (Lori's boys), and Jane (Michael's daughter). Mark Lawlor, Rita's son-in-law, and Tracy Martinowski Lieberman, her daughter-in-law, were as much her kids as her own.
Rita will be cremated, and her cremains will be interred in the South Hill Hebrew Cemetery in York, PA at 9:30 AM Friday, June 3, 2022. Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
