Robert was born in Passaic, NJ in November of 1946 to parents, Edward Barnas (father) and Mary Wilk Barnas (mother). He is survived by his wife, Merry, his three daughters: Amy Firestine, Kerith Wheeler and Elizabeth Barnas; four grandchildren: Thomas Firestine, Gavin Wheeler, Sydney Wheeler and Miles Reams; and a younger brother, John Barnas, wife Gail and their two children: Paul and Jackie.
He grew up in Garfield, NJ where he played football at Garfield H.S. He resided in Garfield until his wedding to Merry in August of 1970. They started their lives in Morris Plains, NJ, then moved to Wayne, NJ where they lived for 31 years before moving to Red Lion, PA.
He received a B.S in Mathematics from Alliance College in Cambridge Springs, PA and received an M.S. in Computer Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University, in Teaneck NJ.
He spent the majority of his career working for the U.S. Army as a Mathematician and Computer Science Engineer for both Picatinny Arsenal, NJ and Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD. In between his time working at military installations, he worked for the Investment Bank of Lehman Brothers, running their worldwide Electronic Mail Systems (EMS) and drove a limousine for a period of time servicing North Jersey and the three New York Metropolitan Airports.
He was an active member of the Central Unitarian Church (CUC), Paramas, NJ for 20 years and more recently was a devoted member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of York (UUCY), PA.
Bob enjoyed travelling with Merry to various locations over the years to such places as Maui, Hawaii, and Bermuda and took many, many trips to Northeast Ohio to visit family. He loved Broadway and tried to see at least one show each year with Merry and his family. He attended over 100 shows in his lifetime.
He loved cooking, wood-working and crafting a variety of character-themed children’s step stools. He enjoyed long walks at Longwood Gardens admiring the various flower displays and exhibits (especially the Orchids) and antiquing.
Bob was a gentle and kind soul who loved his family with all his heart and was loved immensely back.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring. Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc., 863 South George Street, York, is in charge of arrangements.
