Robert Steve Mailman Obituary

Robert Steve Mailman, age 69, of Spring Garden Township, York, the devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many, passed away peacefully in his home with his loved ones by his side on June 30, 2025, following a courageous 15-month battle with Glioblastoma brain cancer. Robert was a graduate of York Country Day School before attending the University of Miami and University of Arizona. Robert then began his career in sales back home, where he belonged, at his family’s business, Mailman’s Department Store. Robert continued to follow in his father’s footsteps, as he was the epitome of hard work and took great pride in taking care of his customers at Jack Giambalvo Motor Company for 33 years.

Born February 22, 1956, in York, he was the beloved son of the late Stanley and Evelyn (Hollander) Mailman. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Canada; his cherished children, Alexis (Clint), Collin; his granddaughter, Alexandra; his sister and brother-in-law, Carla and Herb Morgan; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marcia and Terry York; ten loving nieces and nephews, many lifelong friends, and customers who he called friends who will carry his memory forward with love.

Robert’s family meant the world to him. He found the most joy in the simple moments spent together. He treated his dogs and cats like members of the family. He had a passion for music and started drumming at a very young age. Additionally, he instilled his love for sports in his children, especially football. In addition, he loved when everyone could be home for a family meal. Whether it was getting up at 7:00 am to make challah bread French toast on holidays for everyone, or grilling steaks at 8:00 pm on a summer evening after a long day at work, he always made sure his family was taken care of. He especially looked forward to his annual beach trips to Ocean City Maryland with all the cousins.

If there is one thing about Robert, it was definitely his passion for his family and life. He had the amazing ability to look at the glass half full, not half empty.

The Mailman family would like to send our sincerest gratitude to family members, doctors, nurses, medical staff, physical therapists, caretakers who helped take care of, fought for and stood alongside Robert each step of the way.
