Roy W. Grothe, Jr.

Roy W. Grothe, Jr., age 75, of York, died at 12:39 AM, Friday, January 7, 2022, in Orrtanna, Adams County. He was the husband of Susan D. Manning.

Born December 16, 1946, in York, the son of the late Evelyn (Laughman) and Roy W. Grothe, Sr., he was a Vietnam Marines veteran receiving a Purple Heart and retired from P.A. & S. Small. Mr. Grothe was a life member of Landis McCleaf Marine Corp League and VFW Post #2493, and a member of American Legion Post #799, Vigilant Social Club, Rooster Social Club, 12th Ward Democratic Club, Delphia AA and Girard AA.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Grothe is survived by a son, Matthew Scott Grothe and his wife Tammy of Connersville, Indiana; two grandchildren, MaKenzie Root and her husband CJ and Zachery Grothe; his sister, Vivian Quigley; nephews, Todd and Eric Quigley and a stepdaughter, Jana Manning Trimmer.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Friday, January 14, 2022, at The Semmel Chapel of Workinger Semmel Funeral Home and Cremation, 849 East Market Street, York, with the Reverend Bonnie Whittier officiating. Viewing will be from 1:00-2:00 PM. Full military rites will be presented by the York County Veterans Honor Guard prior to the service beginning at 2:00 PM.
