Samuel L. Shewell

Samuel Lee Shewell, loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother passed away November 18, 2021, after a brief illness. 

Sam was born July 23, 1941 in York, PA to Bernard and Doris (Meckley) Shewell.  He attended the two room schoolhouse in Railroad, PA before graduating from Susquehannock High School.  Sam graduated from Bates College and then received his masters degree from The University of Georgia.  On August 29, 1965, Sam married his college sweetheart Virginia Bateman and together they raised two daughters, Susan and Lynne, until Virginia's death in 1998.

Sam was a quick wit, one of a kind, story telling, compassionate man.  He taught Chemistry at his alma mater, Susquehannock HS, for 9 years before joining his father in the Mechanical Contractor business.  Sam was lucky enough to find love a second time with Beverly Manbeck.  Together they enjoyed traveling, visiting family, dining out, and just being together.   

Sam will be missed by many, but especially Beverly Manbeck his loving partner for over twenty years, his daughters and their husbands, Susan and Robert Graham (Portsmouth, NH) and Lynne and Jim Fitzgerald  (Sebago, ME), his beloved grandchildren Meghan, Colin, Evan, Connor, Kiley, and Kate, his sisters Dori Brenneman and Barbara Darlington.  Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, parents Bernard and Doris Shewell, and brother Daniel J. Shewell.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, December 4th at Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc. (former Hahn Home), 863 South George Street, York, PA 17403 at 2:00 PM (reception to follow).  Internment is private.  In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Sam can be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, Texas, 75284-0692.
