Sarah Goodfellow Obituary

Sarah J. (Seitz) Goodfellow, 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 15, 2024.

Born in Pylesville, Harford County, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Melvin W. Seitz and Lucille B. (Hankins) Seitz and was also preceded in death by her brother Melvin Seitz.

Mrs. Goodfellow is survived by her husband of 70 years, William L. Goodfellow, Sr.; her son, William L. Goodfellow, Jr. and wife Judith, and son, James M. Goodfellow; granddaughters, Emily Goodfellow, Natalie Metz, and Cortney Goodfellow; and great-grandchildren, Kane, Poppy, Pryor, and Tenent.

Sarah was a graduate of North Harford High School, class of 1952, and Thompson Business School in 1953. She held many secretarial/administrative assistant positions during her first career including secretary to the bank president, Brunswick, Maine, Engineering Department of Met-Ed, and R.S. Noonan, Inc. She transitioned to a stay-at-home mother for her young sons. Sarah started her second career in 1970 at West York Area School District where she was Secretary of Transportation and then Payroll and Benefits Manager, which she retired from in 1996. She was a long-time member of Zion United Church of Christ (UCC). Sarah led a life of service, volunteering and providing leadership for many organizations in addition to her employment. Some of these many organizations included Consistory President, Chair of Christian Education, Chair of Zion Church Women, and Youth Sunday School teacher at Zion UCC. She also was a Den Mother for several packs including Pack 94 in Shiloh, PA and was asked by the conference to start a new pack (Pack 140, Shiloh, PA) as the Den Leader Coach. She was also President of Colonial York Chapter of American Business Women’s Association. To quote a friend, “Sarah had the gift to get you to volunteer to help and it always seemed like it was my idea”. Athletically active, Sarah was a gifted long-jumper in high school and played softball, loved bowling, participating in many regional and national tournaments, and played recreational volleyball. She was an avid reader, known to read well into the night. Sarah was always supportive of her children and grandchildren, never missing a school, church, or athletic event, often known to travel many hours not to miss anything.
