Shirley A. Thornton, age 86, of York, died at 10:30 AM Saturday, November 30, 2024, at her residence. She was the wife of Henry M. Thornton, Jr.

Born April 18, 1938, in Virginia, a daughter of the late Clarence and Clarabell Vaught, she was a graduate of York Junior College and was voted Miss York County.  She worked in executive positions in the various family-owned businesses, and was a member of Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church, The Garden Club of York, and The Country Club of York. She also enjoyed playing bridge.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Thornton is survived by her children, Leah Thornton, of Dover, Thomas Thornton, of York, and Jay Thornton, of Seven Valleys; two stepdaughters, Lisa Turner, and her husband Richard, of York, Wendy McNeil, and her husband Bruce Wichmann, of Syracuse, New York; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren (with a tenth expected); two brothers, Sam and Kem; and a sister, Ruth. She was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Gretchen (Denniston) Thornton; and a grandson, Taylor Y. Thornton.

Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 PM Friday, December 13, 2024, at Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc., 863 South George Street, York. Visitation will be from 2:00-3:00 PM.
