Shyla Lefever, Ph.D.

Shyla Lefever, Ph.D. age 62, of York, died at 6:10 AM Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at her residence. She was the wife of Dr. Bryce Lefever.

Born December 8, 1963, in Billings, Montana, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Clyde and Donna (Dove) Welch. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Liberty University, Master’s Degree and her Ph.D. in communication from Regent University. She was retired after a distinguished teaching career at a variety of universities including Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Hampton University, and Virginia Wesleyan. Shyla taught numerous courses in Communication. 

Her skill as a communicator was not limited to teaching. She was the National Spokeswoman for Enough is Enough—an anti-child pornography advocacy organization, and she wrote for Christianity.com. Shyla was also a consultant to Charles Stanley Ministries in Atlanta.

In addition to her husband, she is also survived by his daughter, Paris A. Lefever, of Virginia Beach and two brothers; David Welch and his wife Liz, and Kenric Welch, and his wife Chris, all of Billings, Montana. Nephews include Kenric Reid Welch and Jake Welch. Nieces include Jordan and Madison Welch.
