Sonja E. Brainard, age 88, of Springettsbury Township, York, died at 2:21 AM Thursday, July 9, 2026, at UPMC Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Norman Brainard, Jr.

Born May 11, 1938, in York, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Louisa (Winand) Resh. She enjoyed watching wildlife in her backyard and soap operas, and was an avid wrestling fan.

Mrs. Brainard is survived by two sisters, Gloria Beckwith, of York, and Joan Goodwin, of Alexandria, Virginia; two brothers, Barry Resh, of York, and Richard Resh, of York; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Louisa Eyler, and a brother, James Resh.

A graveside service is scheduled for 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Mount Rose Cemetery, 1502 Mt Rose Ave, York, PA 17403, with The Rev. Donna Jean Foster officiating. Workinger Semmel Funeral Homes and Cremation, 849 East Market Street, York, is in charge of arrangements.
